Campus Martius Detroit Proposal
Last year, I photographed the wedding of Phil and Nancy, where I had the pleasure of meeting Chris and his girlfriend Brittany. Chris delivered a hilarious speech at the wedding, toasting and roasting the groom. I even gave him a shout out during the groomsmen formals when I asked the guy with the “epic haircut” to move to the left. (I too am rocking the same haircut and beard these days.) Chris pulled off an epic Detroit proposal.
Anyway, I was so excited and honored when Chris emailed me asking if I would be willing to photograph his proposal to Brittany. Originally, Chris was thinking about proposing near the historic train depot in Detroit. We met there the day before he proposed and scouted the location but ultimately decided against it. After talking to him a bit more about he and Brittany’s relationship, I told him I knew of the perfect spot. We chose a place near his apartment and created a story about them needing to get all dressed up for a work party at the Townhouse. As Chris and Brittany walked down the street towards me, I noted his suit and beautiful girlfriend from afar. I think I was as excited as he was. Chris had a Detroit proposal outside of the Townhouse.
The actual proposal only lasted a few seconds; as soon as he stopped her, Brittany’s expression began to change. When he pulled out the ring box, excitement flooded her. By the time her took a knee and proposed to her, her reaction was contagious. She couldn’t wait to say “Yes!” and fell to her knees, kissing and hugging her new fiancee. Just as I forewarned Chris, she spotted me when she came to her senses, hearing the clicking of the camera. I love the photo of her pointing me out, knowing that she is on camera. She didn’t care; the ring was far too beautiful to be distracted! This was She Said Yes! Detroit’s second Detroit proposal.
After Chris and Brittany were done celebrating, we took a few photos before heading inside the Townhouse, where Chris had a few more surprises for Brittany: her sister, who lives in Chicago came into town and her friends who set her up with Chris were there to help celebrate the proposal and new engagement. Champagne, toasts, and storytelling followed. All in all, it was the perfect afternoon for a perfect Detroit proposal.
