Foundation Hotel Proposal – Detroit, MI
Foundation Hotel Proposal
The phone rang. It was from Canada.
“Hello, this is Brian with She Said Yes! Detroit” I answered.
“Hi, I am looking to propose to my girlfriend this weekend in Detroit. I have never been there and would like everything to be taken care of. Is that something you can do or do you just focus on photography?” Elias asked over the phone in a very matter-of-fact, direct way.
“I can certainly help,” I responded. With a few questions, the ball on Elias’s proposal to Tobi was rolling. I knew what he wanted (something private) for his girlfriend Tobi (who is humble and shy). He had a budget he was hoping to stick to and wanted a series of events for them to celebrate – proposal, photos, dinner, and a decorated hotel room to end their evening in. Knowing that I couldn’t coordinate all of it alone, I called in Kate from Purple Clover Events. We have worked together on several weddings and proposals before, so I knew the couple would be in good hands.
Kate made some calls, looking for a hotel that could accommodate our proposal in a private room. The Foundation Hotel, one of Detroit’s newest and most desired hotels, was so gracious, offering up a special room and helping us coordinate the proposal.
With the flowers and candles all set up, it was time to propose.
As Elias and Tobi entered the room, she was a bit confused about the set up, wondering what it was for. As she began to walk past it, Elias held her hand, gently preventing her from moving beyond it. As she looked around, everything began to register – the candles, the flowers, getting dressed up, the evening in Detroit…
As Elias began talking to her, Tobi realized this was it. She asked for a second to poise herself. When she was ready, Elias continued. When he took a knee, Tobi flashed a smile and enthusiastically said “yes!”
One of my favorite moments in every proposal is the moment after she says “yes.” There is always this decisive moment where two worlds become one. It is normally occurs by a long, deep embrace where trust and thanks are silently exchanged and the dreams of the couple are cemented together. To me, this is that moment.
Following that decisive moment is always a moment of relief and excitement. “Yes” never sounded so good to Elias.
After their Foundation Hotel proposal, we gave Elias and Tobi a few minutes to just soak it all in. Once they could finally wrap their head around the moment, we photographed a short portrait session around the hotel to remember the moment by.
Congratulations Elias and Tobi on your beautiful Foundation Hotel proposal.
