Same-Sex Proposal Photography
Same-sex Proposal Photography – Belle Isle, Detroit
To say I was excited when Stephanie called me would be an understatement. She was helping her friend Charles plan a proposal to his partner Reece. On a side note, I have been in the photography business for eleven years and have never been a part of any same-sex proposal photography, or weddings for that matter. Not by choice, but simply by chance. Charles and Reece would be my first same-sex proposal photography couple and I couldn’t be more thrilled.
While Stephanie was helping plan the proposal, Charles was busy planning the scavenger hunt that would ultimately bring Reece to the southern tip of Belle Isle, where he would propose. The southern tip is a great location to propose for anyone who loves the iconic skyline of Detroit. I met up with Reece on an unseasonably warm Saturday in February, where he was excitedly pacing along the shoreline, clouting the minutes before Reece would be arriving. We walked through the proposal one last time. A few minutes later, Charles got in position while I blended in on a nearby park bench.
When Reece arrived, Charles smiled widely and began to walk with Reece along the shoreline, bringing him to the spot where he would propose. Reece already had an idea of what was to come. After all, he spent the morning traveling around Metro Detroit to all of their favorite spots, looking for clues as to where to go next.
Once in position, there was only one thing left to do…
After the proposal, Reece was happy and Charles could finally breathe a sigh of relief. Since it was a beautiful day, we spent some time around Belle Isle, photographing them to commemorate their special day.
Special thanks to Charles and Reece for allowing me be a part of your proposal. I will always remember you as my first same-sex proposal photography couple 🙂
